In the Artist’s Words
I wanted to highlight my concerns about the ways AI can negatively impact artists and be harmful to people.
For my topic, I picked the usage of AI because it harms people (more specifically artists).
I drew my sketch on paper, made a rough draft on Sketchbook, refined it, and then added the majority of the effects on IbisPaint X.
I told my story by adding a circuit board and wires as a representative for AI, made the subject look miserable and added binary text talking about the fear of becoming AI. I also think I conveyed my message well by referencing the layout off of the story “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream,” a story about an AI that overpowers society and destroys mankind. I also used a noise effect with many multiply layers to make this piece seem dark and grainy, and after that I added more effects on certain parts of the body, referencing how AI can’t properly capture certain elements/parts of art. I also made the choice of not giving the subject clothes because AI has unfortunately been used negatively to create nudity of people, which isn’t right and is disturbing in a way.
I think my work was successful because I was able to highlight all of my problems of AI.
