Patron Circle Enjoys Intimate Discussion with Hollywood Filmmakers Stephen and Kathleen Gyllenhaal

Stephen and Kathleen Gyllenhaal create films that ask thought provoking questions about who we are, where we came from and how it shapes our future.  Last year each of them won directing awards at the 2016 San Diego International Film Festival; Kathleen for her cutting-edge feature documentary IN UTERO, now in world-wide release, and Stephen for his feature film SO B IT. which hit theaters in April.
The San Diego Film Foundation Patron Circle and invited guests enjoyed a thought provoking wide ranging discussion with the Gyllenhaals at a private estate in Rancho Santa Fe on April 6th. The intimate gathering included a light lunch, champagne, previews of the Gyllenhaals upcoming projects and a lively Q&A with the audience moderated by Executive & Artistic Director Tonya Mantooth.

Highlights included a discussion of the sequel to the award winning film IN UTERO, IN UTERO II and an exploration of how the miraculous life-long development of each person is impacted by the burgeoning science of epigenetics. The Gyllenhaals shared personal stories and delved into cutting edge facts about this fascinating topic.

Insights into the development of film and TV projects, including the complexity and differences of crafting documentary, feature films and TV were also discussed.

The afternoon concluded with dessert and a relaxed mingling of all attendees.
