Despite notable achievements in the film industry in 2023, women directed only 12% of the top 100 grossing films.
And, of the top 250 grossing films in 2023, women filled the following key positions:
• 18% of the directors
• 30% of the producers
• 17% of the writers
• 21% of the editors
• 7% of cinematographers
Since 2022, the Festival has partnered with the Women’s Museum of California to amplify women’s voices within the film industry.
The partnership’s goal is to champion narratives that shine a spotlight on relevant, groundbreaking, empowering stories of the triumphs and challenges facing women today to inspire young girls and improve women’s lives globally.
