Synopsis:

A married couple is forced to reckon with their idealized image of their son, adopted from war-torn Eritrea, after an alarming discovery by a devoted high school teacher threatens his status as an all-star student.

About J.C. Lee:

A New York native and Julliard graduate, J.C. Lee is a theatre, film and television writer. Deemed “An extremely prolific talent” by the Huffpost his “writing demonstrates a wild sense of fantasy combined with a desperate grip on reality.” His original play “Luce” premiered at the Lincoln Center Theatre in 2013 which he later adapted into a film in collaboration with director Julius Onah. Luce the film premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was the 2019 Newport Film Festival Opening Night Film Selection. J.C.’s notable television credits include co-producing and writing for “How to Get Away with Murder”, “Looking” and “Girls”. His plays have been developed and performed at Southwark Playhouse in London, Center Theatre Group, New Conservatory Theatre Center, Ojai Playwrights Conference, Ferocious Lotus Theatre Company, Marin Theatre Company, The Williamstown Theatre Festival, Magic Theatre and Azuka Theatre Company among several others. J.C.’s upcoming play “What You Are” will make its premiere at The Old Globe, San Diego on May 30, 2019.
