The San Diego International Film Festival is beyond proud to share some of the plans for the re-imagined 2020 Festival featuring both digital and physical film experiences, including Drive-In Movies!
Drive-In Movies are back big time! And they’re cropping up all around the world as the preferred 2020 version of watching films on the big screen! In partnership with Westfield UTC, San Diego’s ultimate shopping and leisure experience, we’re transforming the parking lot into the perfect spot for Drive-In Movies.
VIP tickets get access to the front rows for prime viewing access. Additional VIP perks will be given on-site.

DRIVE-IN MOVIE FAQ
All CDC and State of California guidelines will be followed, and we are working closely with the City of San Diego to ensure this event meets or exceeds all recommended standards. Event staff will be wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) as required by CDC guidelines.
To ensure safety, we will leave enough distance between you and the surrounding vehicles. For the safety of our staff and guests, we ask that you remain in your vehicle unless using the facilities. Surfaces will be cleaned on an ongoing basis and our staff will be wearing masks.
We ask that all guests remain in/by their vehicles and practice social distancing as much as possible. You may remove your mask if you are in or on your car, but if you leave your vehicle, please wear your mask and practice social distancing. Security guidelines will be strictly enforced. Failure to follow safe social distancing, or requests from security or staff members, may lead to removal from the premises.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM I-805:
From the north: Take the I-805 South and use Exit 25 for Miramar Road/La Jolla Village Dr. Turn right heading west on La Jolla Village Dr. Turn left onto Towne Centre Dr. followed by a right onto Nobel Dr. Turn right at the 2nd cross street onto Lombard Pl. If you’ve come to the Genesee Ave. intersection, you’ve gone too far.
Follow Lombard Place until you see the parking arm/ticket machine. The parking lot for the drive-in event will be on your left.
From the south: Take the I-805 North and use Exit 25A for Nobel Dr. Turn left onto Nobel Dr. Turn right at the 2nd cross street onto Lombard Pl. If you’ve come to the Genesee Ave intersection, you’ve gone too far.
Follow Lombard Pl. until you see the parking arm/ticket machine. The parking lot for the drive-in event will be on your left.

No, parking will be validated for drive-in guests. Upon entering the Westfield complex, take a parking ticket. Make sure to pick up your swag bag at the booth after you’ve parked for the movie – it will contain your parking validation. Parking is complimentary all day on the day of your screening, so come early and visit the mall.
Entry gates will open at 5:30 PM and close promptly at 7:00 PM. You must arrive before 7:00 PM to be granted access. Parking attendants will direct vehicles into a designated parking spot. We suggest planning your arrival as early as possible so that our staff can direct you to the best spot possible based on availability and the size of your vehicle. All spots are first-come first-served.
Make sure to have your ticket either printed in advance or ready on your phone for us to scan. We will be giving you a ticket to redeem your swag bag before the screening. If you feel uncomfortable to roll your window down please show the code though the window.
No – There will be a section in the front for VIP ticket holders, the rest of the parking will be for General Admission tickets. Parking spaces will NOT be assigned prior to arrival. Vehicles will be placed on a first-come first-served basis and will also be based on vehicle size.
Please follow the direction of parking attendants and venue staff. For everyone’s safety, it is important that you stay in the space you are assigned throughout the event. Parking spaces between vehicles must remain clear.
Parking attendants monitor vehicle parking to ensure the best viewing for all visitors. Large vehicles, trucks and SUVs will be required to park in the rear. RVs, campers and oversized vehicles are not permitted.
The movie audio will be broadcast through 91.7 FM radio station only. If you have satellite radio, please turn it off before driving into the theatre. Vehicles will not be allowed to remain running during the movie and headlights must be off. In case of a dead battery, parking attendants will be able to assist with portable jump kits.
You may sit in your vehicle, on the hood/trunk, in the bed of your truck or the trunk of your hatchback/SUV. (Please note: Gates/trunks cannot remain open higher than the roof of the vehicle. Please have a method to keep the gate from opening all the way). Sitting on the ground or roof of any vehicle is not allowed. Please use common courtesy so everyone can enjoy the show.
Yes, portable restrooms will be available. But the following guidelines must be observed:
- All guests exiting their vehicle MUST wear a mask or face covering.
- Once out of the vehicle, guests must maintain 6 ft. social distancing and walk directly to and from the restroom.
- In addition to restrooms, hand washing and sanitizer stations will be available.
Yes, outside food and beverage is allowed, however, no tailgating outside the vehicle is allowed. Westfield’s restaurants are open! Come early and enjoy dining al fresco before the 7 PM film screening, or pick up your favorite meal and take-out to enjoy in your car!
